Personal Development and Wellbeing of our children

At Elm Tree we use the Thrive approach throughout our school to build relationships, trust, enjoyment of learning and social development to support our pupils to integrate and succeed over the course of their journey with us.

At Elm Tree Community Primary School, we are committed to fostering the personal development and wellbeing of every pupil in a positive, inclusive, and nurturing environment. Our school ethos is built on trust, acceptance, resilience, respect, inclusivity, and friendship, which guides our everyday practice. We provide a comprehensive and coherent personal development programme that runs through both our curriculum and wider school experiences, ensuring pupils gain the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to thrive now and in the future.

Our inclusive approach removes barriers to learning and participation, providing adapted support for all pupils promoting their physical, emotional, and mental health. We actively promote positive relationships and wellbeing by encouraging pupils to express their feelings, develop resilience, and build strong, respectful friendships. Through carefully designed activities and adult modelling, children learn essential life skills such as managing and responding to emotions, setting personal goals, and problem-solving.

We place great emphasis on pupils’ spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development (SMSC), offering meaningful opportunities to explore their identity, heritage, and values. Our curriculum extends beyond academic achievement to include creative arts, sports, and community engagement, helping pupils become confident, independent individuals with a strong sense of character. We foster a safe and respectful school culture where pupils feel protected from harm, valued, and treated fairly, and where they learn to discuss sensitive issues thoughtfully and respectfully.

Our commitment to equality and diversity is central, ensuring every child understands and appreciates differences in culture, belief, and background, while celebrating shared values. We prepare pupils to be responsible, active citizens who contribute positively to both our school community and wider society. Through ongoing communication and partnership with parents and carers, we work together to reinforce these values and skills at home, creating a consistent and supportive environment for pupils’ growth.

At Elm Tree, children are not only supported to succeed academically but are also nurtured to lead healthy, happy lives, equipped with the social and emotional tools to navigate challenges and build fulfilling relationships. This holistic approach ensures that every pupil is empowered to flourish as a well-rounded individual, ready to embrace the opportunities of today and tomorrow.
